The Supreme Court Committee on Standard Jury Instructions in Civil Cases proposes to amend its instructions on Greater Weight of the Evidence (currently 3.9), Negligence (currently 4.1), Introductory Instruction (currently 2.1) (renamed "Weighing the Evidence" in the proposal) and the Closing Instructions (currently 7.1 and 7.2) (combined into a single instruction in the proposal). These amendments are "Plain English" changes that are not intended to affect the substantive meaning of the instructions. The committee believes these changes will improve the jury's understanding of the instructions and its role in the proceedings.
